In one line

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant, used two ways at once: it keeps the oils and fragrance fresh in the bottle, and it helps defend and condition the scalp.

It’s one of the two ingredients in all four Juje formulas — the quiet guardian the whole ritual leans on.

Origin

The antioxidant, in two forms

Not one molecule but a small family — a fat-soluble antioxidant the body, and the plant, both make.

Vitamin E isn’t a single ingredient but a small family of fat-soluble antioxidants — the tocopherols — first identified nearly a century ago. It occurs naturally in vegetable oils, seeds and nuts, and in our own skin, where it sits among the surface lipids as a built-in defense against oxidation.

In cosmetics it comes in two forms. The free antioxidant, tocopherol, is fast and potent — the guardian that keeps oils from turning. Its stable ester, tocopheryl acetate, is hardier and skin-loving — a conditioning form the scalp converts to active vitamin E. Juje uses both.

The ritual is built on oils and fragrance, and vitamin E is what protects them — and, like squalane, it’s a molecule the skin already keeps.

Composition

The molecular portrait

Two forms of one vitamin — one the quick guardian, one the steady conditioner.

FormDetailWhat it brings
Tocopherol
Free vitamin E (C₂₉H₅₀O₂); the alpha form is most active
The fast antioxidant. Guards the formula’s oils from oxidising — and their fragrance from fading.
Tocopheryl acetate
The acetate ester of tocopherol (C₃₁H₅₂O₃)
The stable, skin-loving form. Hardy and heat-resistant; converts to active vitamin E on the scalp.
The plant source
Drawn from vegetable oils — sunflower, soy
A renewable, plant-based, vegan origin — supplied as a warm, amber oil.

One is the quick guardian, the other the steady conditioner — together they cover both jobs: protecting what’s in the bottle, and caring for the scalp.

How it works

Four quiet mechanisms

An antioxidant that earns its place twice — in the bottle, and on the scalp.

i.

It guards the oils

As an antioxidant, vitamin E slows the oxidation that turns oils rancid — keeping every formula fresh and true from first use to last.

ii.

It defends the scalp

A fat-soluble antioxidant that helps the scalp stand up to the free radicals of everyday environmental stress.

iii.

It conditions

Vitamin E is a gentle emollient too, helping the scalp and hair feel soft, smooth and comfortable.

iv.

It protects the fragrance

Because it slows the oils from oxidising, it also guards their scent — quietly essential for a fragrance-first brand.

In the literature

What the research shows

Ingredient-level context on skin’s own antioxidant — and why it comes in two forms.

Skin’s own fat-soluble antioxidant.

Vitamin E is a major lipid-soluble antioxidant naturally present in skin, where it helps defend the surface lipids against oxidation — part of the skin’s built-in antioxidant network.

Reviews of vitamin E in skin. [I]
The formulator’s guardian.

Vitamin E is widely used to stabilise oils and prevent rancidity — a standard antioxidant in oil-rich formulas — and topical vitamin E is documented to raise the skin’s own vitamin E content.

Cosmetic formulation literature. [II]
Two forms, two strengths.

Free tocopherol is the more potent oil-protector; tocopheryl acetate is more stable and converts to active vitamin E in skin — which is why formulas often use them together.

The raw material

A warm amber oil

Plant-derived, supplied as a viscous amber oil — and used at just a fraction of a percent.

What it is. Vitamin E is supplied as a viscous, amber oil, drawn from vegetable oils such as sunflower and soy. A very small amount does the work — it protects at fractions of a percent.

Two forms, on purpose. Juje uses tocopherol to guard the oils and tocopheryl acetate to condition the scalp — the fast guardian and the steady conditioner, together.

Where it sits. In the oil phase of all four formulas, added to protect the lipids from the moment they’re blended.

Vitamin E is in all four Juje formulas — protecting each one’s oils from oxidising, guarding their fragrance, and helping defend and condition the scalp.

The two constants. Squalane and vitamin E are the two ingredients in every formula — squalane the lightweight lipid, vitamin E its guardian, keeping every oil in the range fresh.

Protecting the scent. By slowing oxidation, vitamin E protects each product’s fragrance — a small thing that matters greatly to a brand built on scent.

Quiet, and everywhere. It asks for almost no room — a fraction of a percent — yet it works in every step, seen by no one and felt by everything.

For our partners

The language we stand behind

For retail, stylists and press. Vitamin E is a cosmetic antioxidant and conditioner — we speak to protecting the oils and the scalp, never to treating skin.

We say
  • A fat-soluble antioxidant that helps protect the oils and the scalp
  • Helps defend the scalp against everyday environmental stress
  • Conditions — helps hair and scalp feel soft and smooth
  • Keeps every formula, and its fragrance, fresh
  • Plant-derived and vegan
We never say
  • Heals, treats or repairs skin
  • Anti-aging · reduces wrinkles · reverses damage
  • Protects against sun or UV damage
  • Prevents or treats any condition
  • Any medical or drug claim

On a Juje page we speak to how vitamin E protects the oils and helps the scalp feel defended and conditioned — never to treating skin, and never to sun protection.

Stewardship

A quiet steward in every bottle

Vitamin E is drawn from vegetable oils — often sunflower or soy — a renewable, plant-based and vegan source. Juje uses it not only for the scalp but to protect the range itself: a natural antioxidant that keeps the oils fresh and helps the formulas hold their character over time. A small, quiet steward, in every bottle.

Questions

Asked & answered

What does vitamin E do in the products?+

Two things: it’s an antioxidant that keeps the oils, and their fragrance, from going rancid, and it helps defend and condition the scalp. It’s in all four Juje formulas.

What’s the difference between tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate?+

Tocopherol is the free, fast-acting antioxidant that guards the oils; tocopheryl acetate is a more stable form that conditions the scalp and converts to active vitamin E on skin. Juje uses both.

Is Juje’s vitamin E plant-based?+

Yes — it’s derived from vegetable oils such as sunflower and soy, and it’s vegan.

Is it the same as a vitamin E supplement?+

No. On the scalp it works topically as an antioxidant and conditioner. Juje products are cosmetics, not supplements.
