Squalane
SKWAY-layn
Squalane is a lightweight, skin-identical lipid — a stable version of a moisturizing oil the body already makes — used to soften and condition the scalp without any greasy weight.
What Squalane does
Squalane appears in every Juje formula — Clarifier, Serum, Elixir and Masque — which makes it the quiet workhorse of the entire ritual. It provides weightless moisture, helps the scalp feel supple and comfortable, and supports a soft, cared-for barrier feel — all without the heaviness people fear from an oil. Because it's so close to what skin makes naturally, it tends to agree with even sensitive, reactive scalps.
Under the loupe
Your skin naturally produces squalene as part of its own moisturizing system. Squalane is the stabilized, hydrogenated form of that molecule, which makes it shelf-stable and beautifully lightweight. Juje uses olive-derived squalane, a fully plant-based source. Its "biomimetic" nature — being nearly identical to a lipid the body recognizes — is why it sinks in cleanly and plays so well with actives, which is exactly why it earns a place in both the Nourish serum and the Renew elixir.

Is squalane the same as squalene?
They're related. Squalene is the moisturizing lipid your skin makes naturally; squalane is its stabilized, shelf-friendly form. Juje uses squalane for its lightweight feel and stability.
Will squalane make my scalp oily?
Squalane is one of the lightest emollients available and absorbs quickly, so it conditions and softens without a greasy residue — which is why it suits even sensitive, reactive scalps.
The Ingredient Index is educational. Juje products are cosmetics intended to improve the look and feel of the scalp and hair; they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
